The July 2002 issue of WINE Magazine featured a detailed
report on a tasting of the world's sparklers.
Chris Losh, WINE's Editor added "The best stuff can
really give the big-brand Champagnes a run for their money
- at a lower price."
Ridgeview Cuvée Merret Bloomsbury 1997 and Camel
Valley Brut NV Camel Valley Vineyards Sparkling 'Cornwall'
outscored Moet's Green Point Brut 1997 Chandon, Jacob's
Creek, Mumm Cuvée Napa, Graham Beck, Seaview Brut, ALL Cavas,
and ALL sparkling wines from France and Italy.
Cuvée
Merret Bloomsbury was described as "Typical delicate
elegant nose - with the palate perfectly in balance…. Very
Champagne-like. Some nice complexity and a good balance
of fruit and acid. Really quite moreish."
Camel
Valley was "A powerful nose. Good bubbles. Loads of
citrus and honey on the palate. Lovely! …Fine, persistent
bubbles, fresh delicate and rich on the palate with a lovely
honeyed finish."
